Your role as Chief Research Officer

Given our continuous growth and the importance of our research, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join and lead our research team as Chief Research Officer (CRO). Our CRO will work with and report directly to the CEO. You will guide our team of researchers that develop our sorbent material to capture CO2 from the air. In this new executive role, you will manage and oversee all aspects of R&D, including operations and the team. The team is an international, multicultural team consisting of 6 female and male researchers.

Your responsibility is to design the innovation roadmap, guid and coach the research team as well as understand business cases and their translation into technology research specifications. You're able to be a strategic and creative thinker who shows excellent problem-solving skills and who enjoys networking and collaborating with other disciplines. As our newest member of the Management Team, you have a great interest in our industry and oversee all R&D projects.

Your main responsibilities consist of:

  • Define, develop and implement innovation and research roadmaps.
  • Manage the team of scientists, postdocs, and students, by exception: you offer guidance and coaching.
  • Responsible for the quality of the team, objectives, and growing the team.
  • Closely collaborate with other disciplines, like product development and modelling.
  • Be an expert and first point of contact for all research questions internally and externally.
  • Understand business and use cases and their translation into technology research specifications.
  • Maintain your network relationships and collaborations to support our developments (e.g., with academia, and research institutes). 
  • Responsible for the global R&D budget, timeline, quality, and translation to a roadmap.
  • Collaborate with the MT on the outcome of the research activities whilst being motivated to achieve the best possible result.
  • Propose and write publicly funded projects to fuel longer-term innovation.
  • Proactively reinforce the technology IP portfolio for our IP officer.

Job requirements

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, catalysis, or adsorbent materials, and have experience in leading and mentoring diverse teams of highly educated professionals. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial mindset, strong leadership skills and the ability to proactively navigate complex issues.


Furthermore:

  • A Master's in a relevant field such as chemical engineering or chemistry with at least 10 years of industry experience. 

  • Substantial experience in fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, catalysis, or material science.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading research teams and highly educated professionals.

  • Knowledge of quality standards validation is a plus, but not a requirement.

  • A strong ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Fluency in English, both speaking and (scientific) writing, as we work in an international environment.

  • Lastly, you are living within commuting distance from Eindhoven or willing to move here in short term. Because that’s where the magic happens!
